SYNLawn Jacksonville recently completed an exceptional custom design-build project in Palm Coast, FL, transforming a sprawling backyard into a private, resort-style golf and outdoor living retreat. Spanning more than 8,000 square feet on a stunning 1+ acre property in the Hammock Beach neighborhood, this project was thoughtfully crafted for a client who is both an avid golfer and a passionate outdoor enthusiast.
While the property already featured beautiful natural elements like mature live oaks and palm trees, the dense canopy created significant challenges for growing and maintaining conventional grass. Recognizing this, our team collaborated closely with the homeowner over several months to bring his vision to life, designing a fully integrated practice facility that blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
The finished space is both highly functional and visually cohesive, with multiple connected areas defined by elegant hardscaping elements. Concrete pavers, a limestone patio, and a custom set of stairs extending from the pool deck help unify the space while adding structure and accessibility. Subtle landscaping using tropical and Florida-native plants was carefully incorporated to enhance the aesthetic while maintaining harmony with the existing environment.
At the heart of the project are two custom-designed golf green complexes that elevate the property into a true golfer’s paradise. The primary green, measuring approximately 1,100 square feet, features two SYNSport White Bunkers and premium precision putting turf, similar to what is used in professional environments like TGL presented by SoFi. Surrounding the green is SYNTipede 243 fringe, creating a realistic transition for chipping and short-game practice.
This green was engineered with both performance and creativity in mind. A central spine feature extends from the left bunker, producing 3% slopes that break in multiple directions depending on pin placement. Additional contours across the back of the green range from 0.5% to 3.5%, allowing for a wide variety of putting scenarios that closely mimic real golf course conditions. With more than 10 strategically placed Tee Strike Plus chipping pads throughout the space, the homeowner can practice shots from multiple angles and distances.
The surrounding areas are finished with SYNAugustine 847 turf, offering a lush, resort-like appearance while also providing a durable and forgiving surface for chipping practice and general use.
Complementing the main green is a secondary, 400-square-foot rear green complex located in a fully shaded portion of the property. This space is ideal for practicing during Florida’s hotter days, allowing the homeowner to work on putts and chips from distances of up to 20 yards. Despite its smaller size, the green incorporates a variety of slopes ranging from 0.5% to 3%, ensuring a dynamic and challenging practice experience.
