The golf green project completed by SYNLawn Jacksonville in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, for Chipper Hall is a stunning example of how luxury outdoor living and high-performance golf design can come together in perfect harmony. Located on a breathtaking oceanfront property along the prestigious Ponte Vedra Boulevard, directly across from the iconic 18th hole of the Ocean Course at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, this project was designed to capture both the beauty of the surroundings and the lifestyle of the homeowners.
Chipper and his wife envisioned a serene, multi-functional outdoor space where they could entertain guests, spend time with their grandchildren, and refine their short game, all while enjoying panoramic ocean views. The project began with a hand-drawn concept from the client, which the SYNLawn Jacksonville team carefully refined and transformed into a detailed 3D rendering. This collaborative approach ensured that every design element aligned with the client’s vision while maximizing the property’s potential.
At the center of the design is an expansive 2,500+ square foot putting green complex, crafted to mirror the aesthetic and playability of the nearby Ponte Vedra Inn & Club course. The green features subtle contours and elevation changes that provide a realistic and challenging putting experience. Two large bunkers, constructed using SYNSport White turf, replicate the signature look of the course across the street, adding both visual appeal and functional practice elements.
A standout feature of this installation is the custom chipping pad, which is surrounded by white turf to emulate the distinctive crushed shell tee boxes found at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club. This thoughtful detail enhances the authenticity of the design while giving the homeowner a unique and enjoyable practice area. The golf green is bordered by a SYNTipede 243 apron, creating a smooth transition for chips and short shots, while the surrounding landscape is finished with SYNAugustine X47, one of the most plush and realistic turf options available, bringing the total project size to over 5,000 square feet.
Beyond golf, the property was designed with entertainment and relaxation in mind. Multiple seating areas were strategically placed to take full advantage of the ocean views, creating inviting spaces for gatherings both large and small. A custom bar top adds a social focal point, perfect for enjoying drinks and celebrating friendly putting competitions.
The craftsmanship continues with a custom-built bench integrated into the pool’s retaining wall, finished with matching stucco and topped with a water-tight Brazilian hardwood surface made from exotic Tigerwood. Additional Tigerwood elements, including a cable-suspended swing bench and a custom bar top, add warmth and sophistication to the space.
To complete the experience, a full outdoor lighting package was installed, enhancing ambiance while also allowing for nighttime golf and entertaining. The result is a truly one-of-a-kind backyard retreat that blends coastal elegance, recreation, and relaxation into a seamless outdoor living environment.
